Analysis of album covers

pink!

Funhouse is the fifth studio album recorded by American artist Pink, released worldwide in October 2008 the album reached number one is six countries including Australia and the United Kingdom. It provided pink with three Grammy nominations and five MTV music award nominations.
The album title ‘Funhouse’ is suggestive of face paced up tempo music created to make the consumer feel good. It also has a childlike amusement to it due to the fact that is resembles a game in a way. The font used for the writing on the cover is still bold and strong whilst at the same time bringing in the element of fun as it is not to sophisticated. For the consumer this portrays the idea the artist is clearly trying to make a statement due to the font being bold but still trying to incorporate the album’s title.
The background colour choices of yellow and pink are colours associated with summer again boosting the theme of fun and enjoyment, the colours however don’t cater for a universal audience as they are colour usually associated with a female audience. The portrayal of fun is then renewed with the key image of the artist kicking up her leg with a screaming expression on her face firstly she is shown to be having fun and secondly her body language introduces a feeling of freeness that could reflect the music on the album. The fact the she is riding a ‘merry go round’ horse brings back that childlike feeling of fun and freeness.
This album cover would generally attract a female teenage audience interested in the pop genre.
