Rebirth is the seventh studio album from the American rapper Lil Wayne; it was released on February 2nd 2010 and debuted on the billboard charts at number two selling 176,000 copies within its first week becoming Lil Wayne’s seventh consecutive top ten albums.
The album title ‘Rebirth’ has the connotations of a new beginning or starts it also represents a religious aspect as many people saying that when they find god they are ‘reborn’. When concentrating on the font chosen the artists name is written in a blocked and square font, this leans toward a masculine audience. The effect of having the font in red firstly becomes a portrayal of the stereotypical gang side of music at the same time the fact that the colour red seems to be running could be a portrayal of blood another noticeable link to an American gang.
As a world famous rapper you would expect his appearance to adhere to the stereotypical idea of a ‘gangster rapper’ whereas here on the album cover he is seen to be in attire that doesn’t broadcast street culture and is relatively different to most rappers. He is seen to be sitting in a room to be surrounded by ‘luxury’ there is the view on luxury lifestyle that comes with rap careers and it is usually associated with ‘bling culture’ this again is not adhered to as we see him in a rather sophisticated surrounding. This all provides a relationship between the key image and the album title due to the fact the artist is creating a new look for rappers. This new look is dominates but there still is the use of a low angle shot to portray the confidence, power and status a rapper usually has.
All of the elements on the front cover indicate to consumers that it is a hip hop album but the cover subverts the usual stereotypes associated with hip hop that enjoys the hip hop genre.
